Great Results at Round 3 of Staffordshire County Senior League

Writer's picture: Pete LimbrickPete Limbrick

Drayton Dynamo had an excellent day at Cannock in the third round of the Staffordshire County Senior League, winning three of their four games and drawing the other. This consolidates second place in the table and narrows the gap between us and the leaders.

Alex Mackenzie's report on the day is detailed below.

Game 1: Drayton Dynamo 1 - 0 Stoke City

Team : Pete, Richard, Barry, Trigg, Dave W, Dave C, Steve - Subs; Graham and Kevin

A slow start from Drayton saw us struggle to gain a foothold early on where Stoke had the better of possession but a strong defensive display enabled us to gain a winner in the last two minutes from the boot of our skipper, Dave Whitehouse.

Game 2: Drayton Dynamo 1 - 0 Chesterton Crusaders

Team - Richard replaced by Kevin

The usual hard fought competitive affair, with both teams seeking to consolidate their positions at the top part of the league.

It was a fantastic left foot shot however from Dave ( Dee Cee ) Coogan that gave Dynamo their first win over their rivals.

A late super save by Pete Limbrick after Dynamo got outnumbered at the back sealed the victory.

Game 3: Drayton Dynamo 1 - 0 Stone Old Alleynians

Team - unchanged from previous

Plenty of action in this one with Kevin, and Steve (Keatsie) Keates both having shots saved as well as Dave Whitehouse hitting the post following a cut back from Steve.

The winning goal was again scored by the in form Dee Cee with a fine shot from a short free kick.

Game 4: Drayton Dynamo 1 - 1 Walsall

Team - unchanged from previous

The game was barely underway when an error by the Walsall Keeper allowed Keatsie to score with a simple tap-in. This caused a bit of confusion, particularly to those of us on the touch line, but we will take whatever luck we get! Keatsie came close again midway with a shot off the post.

Walsall though proved to be game opponents and responded with some good football themselves. They capitalized on a defensive error late in the game to equalize.

With Drayton looking a little stretched and tired in the last couple of minutes, Pete made another fine save to secure a draw

All in all a brilliant day out from Dynamo, that has helped to put them right up in place to make a serious challenge for this competition. With plaudits being made as to our progress by neutrals and League Officials on the touchline.

Well done and roll on the next round (September).
